Education farmers support groups

A group for like-minded farmers, vets and industry supporters

Our Background

future farmers of yorkshire our background

Future Farmers of Yorkshire was launched in November 2010. The group brings together like-minded farmers, vets and industry supporters and was conceived by the Yorkshire Food, Farming and Rural Network (whose Executive includes farming organisations such as NFU, CLA, TFA and YFYFC, as well as public sector bodies such as Natural England, Animal Health and Local Authorities). Further discussions with the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, YFYFC, Eblex and the Yorkshire Veterinary Society, and particularly Bishopton Veterinary Practice, illustrated that there was wide industry support for a group such as this.

The group is supported by Yorkshire Agricultural Society and is open to everyone within the industry.  Members are from a range of sectors and enterprise sizes, with a mix of tenants, owner occupiers, managers and employees.

What We Do

The group meets several times a year at a variety of events including a Breakfast Meeting at the Great Yorkshire Show, topical debates, farm and supply chain visits and training sessions. Events are normally free in order to ensure that they are accessible to everyone.

Members state the following as their reasons for attending:

  • To make new business contacts

  • Knowledge transfer

  • A social occasion to meet like-minded people

  • To gain ideas for their own businesses

  • An opportunity for farmers and vets to interact

  • To meet farmers facing similar challenges

  • To see what the future holds for farming
